DOWNTOWN BLAIRSVILLE - A BETTER HOMETOWN

On Wednesday, January 9, 2008, the City of Blairsville and the Blairsville Downtown Development Authority were awarded the distinction of an official "Georgia Better Hometown" by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs. Downtown Development Director, Billy Parrish, presented the Mayor of Blairsville, Jim Conley, and DDA Chair, Kay Jones, with a plaque officially recognizing Blairsville as a designated Better Hometown city.

This designation was attained through the leadership of the Mayor, City Council and DDA board of directors, in additiion to the hard work of many volunteers. As a Better Hometown city, Blairsville is eligible for grants and funds to help achieve the goal for downtown Blairsville to become a revitalized center of activity for the community.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

VOLUNTEERS ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THE DDA

A note from Janet Hartman, Program Manager:

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all the individuals who have volunteered their time and talent to the various committees and projects of the Blairsville Downtown Development Authority. When I started my position as program manager, I was overwhelmed by the number of people already listed as volunteers. As I have worked with each of the committees and gotten to know each of the volunteers, I am continually impressed with the level of commitment and dedication each one brings to the group. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work them and learn from them.

With that said, we are always looking for new people and new ideas to add to our great group. If you have an interest in what is happening downtown, please join us! You can visit a committee meeting or volunteer for a specific project or event. Please contact me at manager@downtownblairsville.com or by phone at 706-994-4837 for more information.

Feel free to pass this email on to friends, family and neighbors!
