The
Sorghum Festival at Meeks Park
is two great
weekends of
family fun! The
historical
festival started
out in the 1960's
has has been
growing ever
since. Held
every October,
festival
events include
arts, crafts,
a working sorghum
mill, car shows,
motorcycle shows,
antique tractor
shows, a parade,
"biskit" eating
contests, pole
climbing, rock
throwing, log
sawing, tobacco
spitting, live
music, and a
square dance.
While
you are at the
Sorghum Festival
be sure to buy
a quart jar
of fresh golden
syrup! You can
search the world
over and never
find any that
compares with
North Georgia
Mountain grown
sorghum syrup.
In early October
the farms in
Union County
start cutting
and stripping
the cane. Thousands
of gallons of
the best syrup
in the world
are produced
right here in
Blairsville,
Georgia, during
October.
Every
day of the festival,
the oldest person
attending is
recognized with
an award. The
person traveling
the greatest
distance to
attend the festival
is also awarded
a trophy. People
come from all
over the world
to get some
of Blairsville's
delicious sorghum
syrup. See you
at the Sorghum
Festival!
