and the Georgia Main Street and Better Hometown Program

The city of Blairsville is in the start-up phase of the Main Street Georgia and Better Hometown Program, a self-help community development program administered by the State of Georgia. Not just a "Beautification Project," the Better Hometown Program is designed to generate "economic development through downtown revitalization, heritage preservation, and restoring a sense of place." Historic and cultural preservation are the foundation of the program; improving the local economy and quality of life are the outcomes.

The DDA of Blairsville has completed most requirements for "Better Hometown" status and should have an official announcement posted by the end of 2007.
